Ruth Herahs, Niece

In the 1905 New York Census I found an entry for a person described as 'niece' of Joseph and Frieda Kreinik (my great grandparents). All the rest of the children in the record are clearly my grandmother Leah and her siblings, even though 'Leah' is rendered as 'Lena.' Other misspellings lead me to think that the Census Taker did not take care to spell things correctly. Kreinik is rendered as Krenick, for example.

They are living at 2249 Broadway, Manhattan.

Joseph = Joseph Kreinik
Freda = Fanny or Frieda Krantz
Lena = Leah Kreinik Jacobowitz
Anna = Tianna Anna Kreinik Opper
Isarael = Irving or Israel Kreinick (spelled with a 'c' by his school)
Nettie = Nettie Kreinik Blatt
Mary = Mae (May) Kreinik Pepis
Celia = Celia Kreinik Rauschkolb
Ruth = the youngest, Ruthie Kreinik/Kreinick

Then there is the entry "Herahs, Ruth, Niece, W F 2 years old."
Can anyone make a guess as to who of Joseph's or Frieda's siblings might be the parent of Ruth Herahs? The Taker might have misheard the name. Names to consider are FUCHS and KRANTZ, but these do not look like what is written. Ruth H. was born in the old country (Austria, which is Austro-Hungary and probably the same part of Galicia/Poland as the family's roots in Sedziszow Mlp.)

Who is this niece Ruth Herahs? Any suggestions for names that might have been misunderstood. Whose daughter is this Ruth? What happened to her later? She does not seem to be mentioned in The Kreinikle in the late 1930s.

Gussie Königsberg

Gussie A. Kreinik, married to Zalmon Kreinik (1867-1933) as most assuredly not the same as Gussie Konigsberg, born in 1902. Gussie A's oldest child was born in 1903, which was only one year after Gussie Königsberg was born.

Julien Grassen-Barbe, also known as Yonatan Kraselnik, is a musician, according to his Facebook page.

I spoke by phone with Julien, from the south of France. He had noticed my Geni profile of Gussie Kreinik (Königsberg), and he thought she might be a reason she had the same name as his great aunt (grandmother's sister) from Sedziszow Mlp.

October 18, 2014: My grand mother Bat Sheva Kraselnik born Königsberg was born in 1908 in Sedziszow Maloposki. She was the daughter of the shohet Hersch Leib Königsberg who was born in 1877 or 1876 in the same shtetl. His parents were Samuel Königsberg who was born in Sieniawa and came from a famous hassidic family of cohanim and shohetim and Leine Elkie Ropper who was born in Sedziszow Maloposki. Bat Sheva (called Sheivah or Lucia)'s mother was Freide Reizel Weichselbaum (or Freida Reissla Königsberg (Weichselbaum)) who was from Strzyzow, the shtetl were lived her parents: Salomon Weichselbaum and Chaje Feige Weichselbaum (born Schwarz). The Weichselbaums were very religious (some of them were hassidim), as the Königsbergs. Grand-ma lived with her brothers and sisters during her childhood in Sedziszow and then, moved to Przemysl. Her mom' died at the age of 32 in Sedziszow and her father moved to New York and remarried a Chaja or Clara (maybe Gold or Goldberg). He passed away in 1938 and was burried in Mount Zion cemetery, Queens, as I understood. He was a "reverend" during several years in New York and then earned money as a clothes presser. Be careful ! "Your Gussie" was born before "mine", as I understood. You must go to read again the declaration of intention of my great grand father I sent you some years ago, you will see the birth date of "my" Gussie. Maybe, this grand-ma sister (we never heard about here in the family!!) was named after "your" Gussie Kreinik born Königsberg..and maybe my great great grand father Salomon Weichselbaum was a cousin of Salomon Leib from Tyczyn wich is a shtetl very closed from Strzyzow (I guess only10 kms [27.5 km]). I think our families were related but how, this is the question...

Shalom,

Julien
==========
Julien had written to me before:
Julien Grassen Barbe, 15 Sept 2013:
"1- my great grand-father Hersh Leib Königsberg was a shohet and came from the Cohen Königsberg branch who lived originally lived in Sieniawa and his area. The Königsbergs of this part of Galicia where Halberstam hassidim. They were friends with theses rebbes. All the men in the family were shohetim in Poland. People from the old generation used to say that it comes from the Middle Age and surely before. Shehita is like the avodah in the Jerusalem temple where the priests gave animals to Elohim.. I'm sure that Hersh was a knowledge man as a rabbi but I ignore if he was the leader of a kehila in Poland or in the US. I know that he lived on Delancey street and on Columbia street (Lower East Side) when he arrived in 1910. The Sedziszow synagogue was on Columbia street. "
"Recently, I discovered that my great grand father Hersh Leib Königsberg lived in the neighbourhood of the Sedziszow synagogue (N.Y. C., Lower East Side). "
Julien (Yonatan) Grassen Barbe , Sept 15 2013: "I read on internet you was related to a Gitel Königsberg (in the Kreinik family, the family of Stanley Kreinik ?) from Sedziszow. This is VERY interesting cause Gitel is a famous firstname in my grand-ma family. For example, my grand-ma first cousin was Gussie (Gitel) Königsberg."

Pauline Berger formerly Pinia Kreinik Update

Eric Kessler added more clues about Pauline Berger formerly Pinia Kreinik.

Eric is Pauline's grandson. He said that her parents were Chaim Kreinik and Elke. See the notes of the ongoing search for how Pauline/Pinia is connected to the rest of the Kreiniks.

If Stanley Kreinik is right that Pauline's mother (Walter's first cousin) was the child of Tuyve's brother Chaim, then this adds a sister, Pinia, to Chaim's other children,  Morris Kreinik; Manny KreinikJoseph _ KreinikHelena KREINIK and Marcus Lazer Kreinik. This can be checked with Ida Friedlander.

Tuyve's brother Chaim married a woman named Rivka, but she might also be known as Elke.
The evidence of her name Rivka comes from Ruth Kreinik, Rivka's grand-daughter. Rivka Kreinik

his daughter: "Hi David, A note from my brother told me he couldn't confirm my namesake. However I'm fairly certain that my Hebrew Rivka is after my fraternal (paternal) grandmother. The grandparents never came to America...."
Ruth Kreinik Feb 24, 2013
Ruth Kreinik says: My info is hazy. I think grandfather's name was Chaim (Herb named after him) and I think I'm named after the grandmother. Not sure. (December, 2011)
[FALSE LEAD: Poland, Jewish Records Indexing-Poland, Births, 1550-1993 about Riwke Kreinik Name: Riwke Kreinik Gender: Female Birth Date: 9 Oct 1865 Birth Place: Tarnow Birth Registration Date: 1865 Father's Name: Samuel Mother's name: Reisel Other: rabbi_midw: Guttel Gottleib Film: 948421 LINE: 338  "  This may not be the right record because the parents' names do not fit. If this Rivka were Tuyve's sister, her parents would be Jacob Kreinik and Selig Lichtenthal, not Samuel and Reisel, and her maiden name would probably be something other than Kreinik (unless it's another cousin-marriage).]
 Other possible candidates for Pinia's parents are Zvie Chaim Kreinik and Gittel/Gussie. Gussie was Zvie Chaim's second wife. With his first wife, Rachel Zweifach, he had Nathan, Josef (my great-grandfather) and Aaron. With Gussie he had Josef's half-brother Zalmon.

If Zvie Chaim and Gussie are Pauline Berger's parents, then Pauline would be Walter's second cousin.

I'm leaning toward equating Rivka with Elke. REVISION. Chaim had two wives. Rivka died at Joe's childbirth and he married Elke/Elka. She then had Helena and Marcus.  29Mar2017. DWJ.

Weinstein Stein Finkelstein

Susan Paris encouraged me to post some photos from her Grandma Fishy's sister.

The children Mary/Monnie, Sam, Anna/Chana, Florence/Fryma, Sylvia/Sossel, Max and Ida were born to Moishe Weinstein and Leah Chagall.

The Weinsteins changed the name to Stein, and Leah Chagall was also known as Lillie Swerdlich, Lillian Swerlik, Lena Swerk, and Leah Siegel.

Danzigers in Cleveland

Susan Paris got the Western Reserve Historical Society to provide Cleveland city directories for the years 1916 through 1933. Many of the Danzigers are listed. So are some of the Stein family.

If you press on one of the pin markers on this map, you will see information about the person, event and year.
