Belina (Belyinda) Kreinick

Belina Kreinick founded a high-end dress emporium. She dressed the elite, the Jewish aristocracy and show business finest.
[Story from Tony Williams, husband of Belina's granddaughter, Pat Brauer, daughter of Raye Kreinick, Belina Melba Kreinick's daughter. William Kreinick separated, and was not really in the picture. Belina got out of Romania and worked sewing linings in fur coats in Paris. She went to New York. She was good, and someone encouraged her to open her own shop. So she did. Each daughter eventually ran one of the Kreinick 'drop shops,' where ladies would get measured; the garments were made at the original shop by a cadre of young women. The finished product would be delivered (dropped) back to the originating shop and a beautifully dressed lady would emerge.

Well, OK, I embellished a bit. But that's the story.]

Tony told me (David J) that he used to notice my grandmother Leah Kreinik Jacobowitz in the women's section of Agudath Sholem in Jersey City. He thought she was very fashionably dressed. This comes from a man who spent his live in the diamond and fine jewelry business. Tony joked that you wouldn't guess how Jewish he was from his name.

Belina is buried at Mount Zion Cemetery:

Hi David, I checked with my Dad on the name and he said that her real name was Belina, however it’s listed as Belinda/Belynda in some census document etc. My Dad confirmed the addresses in the documents you sent, and it is indeed his great-grandmother. She owned a dress making shop in NYC. William and Belina were from Romania and I’m not aware of anyone from Poland. My Dad wasn’t familiar with a Stanley Kreinik, but he’s going to ask his Mother about it. We have a lot of pictures dating back to the late 1800’s of our side of the Kreinick family. I will check out your Geni tree! I just discovered the website today. -Stephanie

Cc: Andrew Kreinik Subject: Re: Dave Page/ Kreinik/ Kreinick Dear Stephanie, I am very curious about "Belina Kreinick." When I was looking for my Kreinik relatives in New York, I kept coming across Belinda Kreinick and Belynda Kreinick listed near my Kreiniks, also in the clothing business. I am attaching the clips from three City Directories that you might find useful. These Kreinik/Kreinicks must have known each other, but when I asked Stanley Kreinik, "Stanley Socks", who still lives in Manhattan, he said he didn't know Belynda/Belinda.

Stanley has sent me much material about the Kreinik origins in Sedziszow Mlp, Poland. He visited there and has a lot of documentation. In our family the Kreinick spelling came only in my great uncle Irving's part of the family, an addition by the school that Irving attended. http://www.geni.com/people/Irving-Israel-Kreinik/6000000001450241595 I will write to you from your new Geni profile and share the tree I have put up there. Maybe we are related. I think I found your profile entered today on Geni: http://www.geni.com/people/stephanie-comen/6000000023233636126. So we can try to link our families together.

 Best regards, David Jacobowitz

From Andrew Kreinik,  14 March 2014.

Here is a Romanian Kreinik who now lives in Hungary.  I believe that she may have a borther, Sandor, who still lives in Satu Mare, Romania. She may be related to Stephanie Comen.

Andrew Kreinik sent an article that may refer to the Belyinda Kreinick Dress shop that showed up in the April 2, 1921, article in the NYTimes: Kreinick's Shop Buys West Forty-Fifth Street Property.

In 1940 Belina is 57, listed as married, living in the same house since at least 1935, an executive in the 'Drenintang' industry (probably Dressmaking).
In 1990 she is listed at 62 E 55th St. If this is the same person, she would be 107 years old at least.

Looking for Belyinda Kreinick we found Belina who may also show up as Belleria Kreinich, married to William Kreinich in 1910 with children Rose, Sarah, Ray and Eva.
